Whitewater rafting in the Great Smoky Mountains is an exhilarating experience that adventure enthusiasts of all levels can enjoy. River Rat Whitewater offers top-rated, guided rafting adventures and is known for its top-tier guide training program, ensuring a thrilling yet safe expedition. Here are some key tips to help you prepare for your adventure:
What to Wear
Clothing: Opt for clothes that you are comfortable getting wet in, such as swimsuits or shorts.
Footwear: Secure footwear is a must. Wear water shoes, old tennis shoes, or sports sandals with a heel strap. Avoid flip-flops or going barefoot.
What to Bring
Sunscreen: You’ll be exposed to the sun for over 2 hours, so apply sunscreen before the trip. You can also purchase sunscreen at the River Rat gift shop.
Towels & Dry Clothes: Keep towels and a change of clothes in your vehicle for after the trip. Remember to bring something to store your wet clothes in.
Avoid Valuables: It’s best not to bring electronics or valuables that you don’t want to get wet or possibly lose.
Gift Shop: In case you forget something, River Rat’s gift shop carries all the river gear you’ll need, including water shoes, sunscreen, towels, sunglasses, and souvenirs.
When to Arrive
Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled trip time. This will allow you enough time to check-in, change clothes if needed, use the restroom, and stow away your belongings. Complete all liability waivers before your arrival.
Parking and Check-In
You can park in front of the outpost or in the large grass field located beside it. After parking, make your way to the front of the building for check-in. A government-issued photo ID is required, and the last name on your reservation and credit card should match the ID. After check-in, you can use the changing rooms to get ready and use the restrooms. River Rat offers a car-locker system for valuables; lock them in your vehicle and bring your keys to the front desk where they will be secured until you return.
Safety Orientation
Be punctual for your scheduled trip as safety orientations will begin promptly at that time. This is an essential part of ensuring a safe rafting experience.
After Your Adventure
After your adventure, professional photos of your adventure will be available to view and purchase. You can also enjoy delicious food from our on-site food truck and a cold beer on draft.
Equipped with these tips, your whitewater rafting adventure in the Great Smoky Mountains will not only be thrilling but also safe and hassle-free. Remember, preparation is key to maximizing the enjoyment of this exciting escapade. Happy rafting!
