Winter is officially upon us, and the cold winter temperatures have people bundling up and turning on their space heaters. While we would bet that you would love to be out on the Pigeon River doing some tubing (we sure do too), there is another way that you can get out and tube this winter! How you may ask? It’s freezing! Well, the answer is snow tubing. While it may not be quite as awesome as river tubing with us here at River Rat, there are still some awesome snow tubing opportunities here in the Smokies that will help you keep your tubing skills sharp throughout the winter season.
Ober Gatlinburg offers winter snow tubing every day from now until March 26, 2017. That gives you plenty of time to plan your trip to Gatlinburg. According to its website, “Snow tubing is a great winter activity for ages 3 and older. It’s all the fun of sledding without the walk back up the hill! … Our “Magic Carpet” (surface lift) takes care of that.”
Due to the popularity of the snow tubing at Ober, they highly recommend buying your tickets in advance so that visitors don’t have to worry about showing up to find out that tickets have sold out. Advance tickets can be purchased here, as well as on-site on a first come, first serve basis.
We all wish that it was warm and sunny outside, but since we have a few more months of winter left, we should go out and make the most of it. With the recent wildfires in Gatlinburg, the community could greatly benefit from a visit from you and your loved ones. Many local businesses have been affected by the wildfires, and the community is working to rebuild. Attending any of the December Events in the Smokies, or simply making a trip to one of your favorite Gatlinburg restaurants will help our community with the rebuilding effort. Thank you from all of us here at River Rat, and we look forward to seeing you this summer!
